Meet Our Doctors
Chia Wu
Dr. Chia Wu, DMD, is a airway-centered biological dentist at Urbandale Smiles, providing complete biological and holistic dental care to people of all ages living in and around Urbandale, Iowa, and throughout Polk and Dallas Counties. Dr. Wu has been practicing for the last 16 years and received extensive clinical training to deliver high quality family dentistry from one of the first dental schools in the United States: Temple University Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Her story of why she became not just a biological dentist, but an airway-centered biological dentist comes from watching my father pass away due to cardiac arrest. He was a heavy snorer but did not link cardiovascular disease to snoring/sleep apnea. She chose to pursue further education in airway and sleep dentistry, and found that 90% of patients that passed away due to a cardiac event had undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea. Since then she has become passionate in helping others see a hidden epidemic that is widely underdiagnosed and the missing link in terms of their oral and systemic health issues.
As an airway centered biological dentist, she is aware of how underdevelopment of the upper and lower jaws can contribute to an inadequate airway, like breathing through a straw. This has been one of the things she sees most commonly that is keeping patients from being able to enjoy a proactive wellness and healing journey.
She enjoys helping patients in their proactive wellness and healing journey by offering biological, integrative, functional, and holistic dentistry. This helps patients get into optimal airway health, by providing long lasting healthy teeth, gums, and overall wellness. She loves educating patients on how nutrition can do for them physically, mentally, and spiritually.
She was introduced to the International Association of Biological Dentistry and Medicine (IABDM) and the International Association of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) and became a member of these organizations. This allowed her to network with other integrative, holistic, functional, and biological health care providers. She is grateful to be SMART certified, this has introduced her to many patients seeking removal of heavy metals and toxins from their bodies.
She is a firm believer in biocompatible dentistry and less invasive ways of treating teeth to help maintain the most natural shape and size of a person’s teeth. Her goal for patients is to help them find the root cause of your oral health problems by using the meridian connection to connect the dots between your body and teeth.
I love utilizing 3D cone beam technology to identify hidden concerns. Dr. Wu loves traveling, taking walks in nature, and spending time with her husband and two papillon dogs: Buddy and Timmy. She looks forward to meeting with you to see how she can help you in your oral health and wellness journey.
